  • PROBLEM: The expansion joints were poorly constructed and original material had sagged creating a depression in the carpet. To overcome this, metal plates were placed over the top of the joint. Because the floors were not level these created a major hump in the passageway.

  • BELZONA FACTS: The surrounding floor area was rebuilt and leveled to ensure a smooth transition between the two floor slabs. The expansion joints were then re-cast. Because of the quick curing characteristics of the Belzona products it was possible to rebuild 2 expansion joints per day causing minimum disruption.

  • APPLICATION DATE: February 2003
  • PROBLEM: Customer was in the process of refurbishing their banquet kitchen. The original material had sagged causing a tripping hazard. To obviate this the joint was covered over with a stainless steel metal strip which also proved to be unsatisfactory. The refurbishment required that the joint be covered by the new sheet form floor covering. As a result of this the joint needed to be cast level with the existing floor.

  • BELZONA FACTS: Because of the non-shrink properties of the Belzona material the customer could be assured that the joint could be overlaid without any future sagging concerns. An additional advantage was the quick set up time which allowed the flooring company to cover the joint after 24 hours. Joints similar to this one have been in service in BC for over 13 years without the need for any repair or refurbishment.

  • PROBLEM: Original patented extruded expansion joint rubber insert had developed cracks and tears compromising safety. These inserts are not readily available. This necessitates the removal and replacement of the entire aluminum extrusion, a long and lengthy procedure.

  • PROBLEM: The outside paving area had been cast separately to the main building foundation and no consideration had been given to the different rates of movement the two slabs would be subjected to. As a result the area was a constant safety and visual concern. Repairs generally involved removing the loose concrete and refilling the gap.

  • BELZONA FACTS: The Belzona repair is a flexible joint cast between the two surfaces allowing them to move independently of each other.

  • APPLICATION DATE: February 2005
  • PROBLEM: The mall was under renovation and new floors were cast over existing areas to overcome some of the discrepancies in elevation between the various areas. This involved welding a stainless steel “L” channel on either side of existing steelwork to act as a support structure for the new expansion joint.

  • BELZONA FACTS: The tiles were cut with a diamond saw to reflect the new width dimensions and removed. An aluminum ½ x ½ 90˚ strip was bonded in place and the new joint cast.

  • PROBLEM: Hospital dish washing area and storeroom were a constant safety problem because of the wet floors. The decision to proceed with this application was based on the success of another application at the main regional hospital in the area

  • PROBLEM: Floor area of this hotel Health Club had been tiled with 2x2inch mosaic type tiles. These proved to be very slippery when wet. As remedial action hotel had placed non-slip floor mats over all the access areas. Whilst this was successful it was aesthetically untidy and posed a constant cleaning and odor problem.

  • PROBLEM: This complex concrete roof structure had presented sealing problems since it was constructed. The asphalt roofing material had been replaced a number of times over the years without any long term success.

  • BELZONA FACTS: Using Belzona® eliminated the need for repetitive sealing work with no additional maintenance work over the past 13 years. Another advantage was that the previous roofing material could be left in place and the Belzona product applied over the top of it without detriment.

  • PROBLEM: Entrance to parking garage had been badly damaged by ice melting chemicals and salt.

  • BELZONA FACTS: Using Belzona® allowed the area to be resurfaced without having to jack hammer the concrete out to provide space for a standard concrete pour of a few inches. This repair is in a cold climate and is subjected to freeze thaw cycles as well as deicing chemicals. The product stands up to both extremely well and has required no further attention to date.
