Our products will also protect the components of pumping systems from from erosion and corrosion. Beyond protecting pump components, Belzona 1341 Supermetalglide is also NSF Approved for contact with potable water.

  • CUSTOMER: Water Distribution Company
  • APPLICATION DATE: May 1995
  • APPLICATION SITUATION: Water transmission pumping station
  • PROBLEM: Reduced output from booster pumps which required standby unit to operate continuously to provide adequate flow

  • APPLICATION METHOD: The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona P.I.P. computer genrated engineering specification following a detailed workshop inspection.
  • BELZONA FACTS: Due to the reduced output of the pump units and the increased demand for water, each unit was removed for inspection and repairs and coating were carried out in line with Belzona P.I.P. recommendations. The pumps were then tested prior to re-installation on-site where dramatic results of all five units were observed. Under normal demand only three pumps are required instead of five. Flow has increased from 65 liters/sec. at the required pressure. Power consumption was reduced by 5%. Pump efficiency increased by 24%.

  • APPLICATION METHOD: The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona P.I.P. computer generated engineering specification from detailed information supplied by the end user.
  • BELZONA FACTS: The pump unit was identified for potential overhaul while still in service due to reduced output and overheating of the drive motor, a characteristic of reduced hydraulic performance. When the unit was removed and disassembled for inspection, considerable erosion had occured on the diffuser bowls, which were also badly deteriorated from the effects, of nodal growth and corrosion. By utilizing Belzona computer generated overhaul techniques specific to this pump type and its operating conditions, substantial savings in running costs - approximately $55,000/year, coupled with sustained high levels of performance, increased output and long term protection were achieved.

  • PROBLEM: Intake cone on this raw sewage pump had eroded badly from entrained grit, and the auger would no longer draw properly due to excessive clearance.

  • BELZONA FACTS: The Belzona 1311 Ceramic R Metal cures to such a hard surface, the only way to machine it to size was with diamond tooling; neither carbide nor ceramic tools would cut more than a few seconds before being destroyed.

  • BELZONA FACTS: These pumps were part of a 45 pump contract for a Canadian inter provincial pipe line company. (Pumps were built in 2 locations –Vancouver, BC & Portland, OR. Tests on a pilot unit had shown that coating with Belzona® 1341 improved overall performance by approximately 1½ - 2%. This was considered worthwhile as it provided the extra pumping margin required by the customer. Every pump was pre- assembled tested to establish pump curve, disassembled, grit blasted , coated, and then reassembled before re-testing. In all cases performance curve had improved.

  • PROBLEM: Erosion and a collapsed bearing had contributed to massive wear around diffuser bowl. Almost a ¼ inch of metal had been lost.

  • BELZONA FACTS: Using Belzona® eliminated the need to scrap the component which would have resulted in a lengthy wait as part was not readily available. The service life of this pump was tracked for more than 6 years after completion of this application. It was finally scrapped in 1996. During this period no additional Belzona work was carried out on it.

The service life of this pump was tracked for more than 6 years after completion of this application. It was finally scrapped in 1996.   • BELZONA FACTS: Rebuilding with Belzona® allowed the vacuum pump to be repaired in house saving both downtime and maintenance dollars. The unit was also protected internally to prevent the problem from re-occurring.

  • BELZONA FACTS: The use of Belzona enabled the pulp mill to rebuild the vacuum pump in house. The success of this application has resulted in a number of other units being repaired and protected in a similar matter.

  • CUSTOMER: Coal Mine, British Columbia
  • APPLICATION DATE: 1996
  • PROBLEM: The splitter of this cast iron Worthington split case sludge pump had broken away. The mine engineers had originally discarded the “Belzona fix” and insisted that a new cast section be made and welded into place. This was duly done at great expense. The new splitter was “fared in” with Belzona® 1311 and the pump internals coated. After operating for only a few weeks the pump started producing a rattling sound and on further inspection it was found that the new splitter had come adrift and the only thing keeping it in place was the Belzona® product used to “fare it in”. Because there was no replacement, it was decided to go ahead with the Belzona® repair originally suggested but turned down.

  • BELZONA FACTS: After the 2nd repair using the Belzona solution the pump was returned to service and operated for 2 years at which stage it was removed to replace bearings and packings. An inspection revealed that the fabricated splitter was still in first rate condition and that coating applied to the pump to protect it from sliding abrasion was still in perfect condition. After the overall the pump was returned to service.

  • BELZONA FACTS: Apart from the general erosion / corrosion problems experienced with swimming pool pumps improving pumping efficiency and reducing running costs are becoming and more important as energy costs continue to escalate . An application of Belzona® 1341 Supermetalglide to the internal surfaces of the pump increased the efficiency by almost 12%

  • BELZONA FACTS: By coating the pump casing and impellers the customer was able to increase pump performance by an average of 11% per pump. The original target for this application was 5%.

  • CUSTOMER: Zinc Smelter, Trail, BC
  • APPLICATION DATE: October 2002
  • PROBLEM: Hot acid slurry has badly eroded this pump expeller housing within 6 months. Replacements were not available

  • APPLICATION METHOD: Application carried out in accordance with Belzona® Know-How Leaflet CEP-5
  • BELZONA FACTS: Ceramic beads were mixed with the Belzona 4301 to provide superior abrasion resistance against the process slurry, which is both acid and abrasive. Several more units have been repaired based on the success of this job, including one which had a hole through the casing. Much later, the original was returned to the shop: the Belzona material was standing proud, as the cast metal of the housing had been eroded away on either side. This was after a longer period of service than the original parts had delivered.
